KARAOKE PARTY CELEBRATES WEEK'S END
- Published: 21 July 2014
You know what they all say about all work and no play. At Perry Wellness Center, we work hard in classes and throughout the campus. But we also make time for fun and fellowship. And nothing says “fun” like a session of karaoke!
On a recent Friday, staff members Elizabeth Moss and Laura Leigh Bell planned a karaoke event on the front porch of our classroom building. After a healthy lunch, peers and staff heard the music turned up, and soon they enjoyed the singing talents of Rhonda Hubbard, as she sang “Celebration.”
Soon the microphone was taken by other peers, and the song selections changed to fit the style of each participant. Before long, the porch was filled with singing and dancing staff and peers, celebrating the joy of music and movement.
“This is why we do what we do at Perry Wellness Center,” Stuart Perry explained. “To see this peer family have such fun on Friday afternoon has a way of making us increasingly aware of our progress at this center.”
Needless to say, Stuart himself was an active participant in the activity. “Today was all smiles and laughter,” he noted. “We saw some good dancing!” Such activities are not only a good outlet for social interaction, but provide helpful exercise.
“This was a fun time for us all,” peer counselor and organizer Elizabeth Moss said. “To see the peers and staff interact as a family was a great reason to do this again in the coming weeks.”
