On one of the coldest days of the year, we are once again appreciating the efforts of our "street brigade." Last week we described how their volunteer cleanup efforts after last fall's hurricane continues to reap benefits. As of this past Monday, firewood was being chopped from felled trees in order to load up the huge fire pit on the terrace.
Our wood choppers had perfect timing, as a sunny, very cold day arrived this morning. Many peers are seeking the welcoming warmth of the fire pit. In the photo above, Kaylon Holt, left, helps Tyshaun Thomas to stoke the fire and load a heavy oak cutting into the flames. As he contemplates an upcoming delivery of donated pop tops to the Ronald McDonald House (as described in Monday’s story), Kaylon says with a smile, “I am happy that my pop tops are not as heavy!”
