With 68 peers currently in attendance at Perry Wellness Center, the need to avoid the spread of contagious illnesses is always a consideration. It is on staff members’ minds, particularly as the PWC family gets ready to move into flu season.
Recently staff member and certified peer specialist Sarah Teal, led a morning group on the topic of ways to prevent the spread of flu. She reviewed several important “do’s and don’ts” with the group:
- Get Vaccinated.
- Keep Hands Clean. Wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer often.
- Eat Right.
- Don't Touch Your Face.
- Cover Your Mouth and Nose. Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
- Smile.
- Exercise.
- Stay Home.
While all points were discussed, Sarah highlighted the final tip, emphasizing the need for people to stay home when they have the symptoms of the flu. This action is for the sake of both their own health and that of others with whom they might come in contact. Early warning signs of the illness were also reviewed with the group.
