Recently, 23 of our peer members and staff attended the 21st annual statewide consumer conference, sponsored by the Georgia Consumer Mental Health Network. The event was held at Epworth-by-the-Sea on St. Simons Island. Over 800 Georgia consumers and advocates attended the conference, whose theme this year was "Working toward Wellness through Coaching."
Our own Stuart Perry presented two workshops on "Wellness and Exercise" during the conference, drawing upon his experiences with using exercise to promote improved mental health.
The consumer conference is an annual event for Stuart and PWC. Last year our program was cited as the Top Provider for Mental Health in Georgia. About this year's conference, Stuart said: "This is an exciting time for these peer clients and staff members, throughout the state, who travel to the east coast of Georgia to hear progress reports and new avenues of education concerning mental illness and wellness. Our delegation has been excited about this trip for some weeks."
It's great to know that Georgia is spreading the message about the importance of physical fitness to good mental health.
