Recently, we shared with readers our plans to expand cultural awareness at Perry Wellness Center, after obtaining suggestions from peers. A unit concerning “country customs” was begun, led by staff member Evan Brown, CPS. In a discussion on differences among people around the world, peers were mst interested in particular customs and special foods. To tackle the latter, Evan worked with food services manager Arthur Patillo to integrate meals and food awareness into the process.
Mexico was the first country on the list, and the new program kicked off the Taco Tuesday in the Perry Wellness Center cafeteria. Evan explains, “We first discussed our Mexican neighbors and friends. Cafeteria staff prepared some hard and soft-shell tacos for our lunch. They were great, and we will visit this country again!”
