As COVID-19 lessens its grip in South Georgia, Perry Wellness Center peers have enjoyed a loosening of the health precautions introduced last year, including travel restrictions. Staff member and newest certified peer specialist (CPS) Kelly Jansen recently organized a day trip to the annual Watermelon Festival in Cordele, Georgia to celebrate the summer season.
“I organized this trip as a way to celebrate passing my CPS test, but, more than that, this was the first day trip we have taken since the pandemic,” Kelly explained. “We had fun eating and enjoying watermelon, prayer time, and talking with members of ‘Celebrate to Recovery’ of Crisp County. The peers and staff compared days at the respective centers. It was a great learning experience for us all.”
Kelly concluded, “We had a great time!”
