Okra cooking tipsWith the intense heat of this summer, many Southwest Georgia residents are faced with the decision of whether to can vegetables while they are at the finest or to wait until more mature plants are available in cooler weather.

“I know that the weather has been hot,” Perry Wellness Center founder and CEO Stuart Perry says. “But the routines and processes of many customers never change. I guess some grow and process vegetables for the fall season and for summer.”

He continues, “But I do hope people realize that small pod okra is best for canning pickles and other recipes. We have much of it available and want it to be used while it is still tender and small.”

The recent delivery of freshly picked okra, pictured above, awaits processing and placement for customer selection at Rudy’s Happy Patch Market. We hope it tempts some shoppers to stare down the summer heat and put up some Georgia pickled okra.
