This Friday, December 21 at 9:30 a.m., we invite you to join Perry Wellness Center staff and peers as they participate in the Worldwide "Walk 27" to honor the victims of the Newtown shootings last week. We will be walking in Rees Park, less than a block from our campus. If you can, come and wear green and white -- the school colors of the targeted elementary school.
Perry Wellness Center will also be interviewed by WALB-TV about this issue.
At tragic times like this, another tragedy often occurs, when mental health patients are stigmatized because of the actions of one individual. Most mental health patients are more likely to be victimized by crime than to perpetrate them. As many argue the politics of gun control, let's take a moment to remember the need for more mental health resources and better identification of individuals at greatest risk.
Hope you can join us Friday.
