Mrs. Carter 2Perry Wellness Center joins the community, nation, and world in mourning the death of former first lady Rosalynn Carter, who died yesterday at the age of 96. Mrs. Carter was a longtime advocate for mental health, as well as caregiving, housing, and other social issues. Through the work of the Rosalynn Carter Institute, the Carter Center, and other organizations she helped found or support, this advocacy will continue.

Rosalynn Carter was a staunch supporter of Perry Wellness Center and the Perry family. Until more recent years, she frequently dropped by our campus or collaborated with Stuart Perry on various efforts, including the Journey for Life in support of depression screening and awareness.

The photo above shows Mrs. Carter with a group of staff and client peers during a tour of Perry Wellness Center. We will be going through our archives and sharing additional photos and tributes in the near future.

We always appreciated “Miss Rosalynn,” her visits, and all her support, but are so glad that her advocacy had wings. Join us in helping continue her efforts on behalf of individuals with mental illness and their families. Sometimes speaking out can make all the difference.

Our condolences to former President Jimmy Carter and the Carter family.
