MH Meeting TableThe State of Georgia contracts with mental health and addictive disease treatment providers around the state to offer peer-run recovery programs to individuals with persistent mental illness and/or substance abuse. To ensure communication among providers and with the state office, the Dept. of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is hosting six regional listening sessions around the state. The primary focus is upon training and continuing education for the certified peer specialist (CPS) workforce that provides hands-on education and support for peer clients, including those at Perry Wellness Center.

Two sessions were held in Americus last week at Perry Wellness Center and at the adjacent Chamber of Commerce complex. Area CPS staff, clinicians, and administrators met on December 12 for two “listening” sessions.
We found the day to be a productive one and were pleased with the positive feedback we received from BDHDD staff.
