Peer Spotlight: Essie Fulks
Everyone at Perry Wellness Center enjoys working with Essie Fulks, or “Miss Essie,” as she is fondly called by peers and staff alike. She takes her role at the center very seriously, and she is also serious about meeting her own personal goals.
Miss Essie recently demonstrated this fact when she completed her college degree. After years of online study, she is now a magna cum laude graduate of American International University in Atlanta. Her bachelor’s degree is in Business Administration and Human Resources.
PWC founder Stuart Perry shows his pride in her accomplishments when he says, “Essie and I have been associated with peer wellness and recovery for over 10 years. She is a proud CPS and now a college graduate. Despite recent back and shoulder surgery, Essie continues to work and lead peers at Perry Wellness Center. I am proud of Essie.”
Oh, and did we mention that she is also a Certified Peer Specialist? To obtain this certification, Miss Essie was required to have weeks of training and to complete assignments and testing.
Let’s let Miss Essie weigh in on her accomplishments: “I am thankful to God and Perry Wellness Center for encouragement and support while I continued this education effort. I hope to get my master’s degree in Adult Education from this same online university.” No rest for the weary!
Miss Essie’s graduation exercise was attended by several family members. In the photo above, she is embraced by her proud husband of 19 years, Willie Fulks.
Congratulations, Miss Essie, and thanks for all you do!
