As the focus on health and wellness increases, individuals and organizations are participating in a growing number of fitness programs throughout Sumter County. At Perry Wellness Center, a large part of our focus is the Whole Health Action Management Plan, which teaches peers to better manage their own health outcomes. We also are involved in community events that promote wellness.
One such activity was the recent 5K Fun Walk and Run by the Methodist Home for Girls in Americus. The event was a fund-raiser designed to raise funds for girls who will be attending college. PWC staff member Elizabeth Moss, who helped organize the event, appreciated the unique partnership between the two local programs.
“This was a fun event, and we used the opportunity to help the Methodist Home for Girls as they worked to raise money and allow peers to be involved in the mission of that organization,” Elizabeth said. “It was also a great time for physical wellness for peers.”
Several peers participated in the walk or run. In addition to providing a healthy outing, the event gave peers an opportunity for greater community involvement. After the event, participating staff and peers returned to the center in a spirit of celebration for completing the 5K course.
