It’s time for another update on the pop top collection project being spreadheaded by our peer Kaylon Holt. Now in his 13th month of collecting pop tops for donation to the Ronald McDonald House, Kaylon is attempting to exceed the all-time individual collector donation for the Columbus, Georgia Ronald McDonald House.
Staff member and mentor Mulkey McMichael reports on Kaylon’s progress: “There are 106,000 tops in bags of 1,000 ready now for delivery to Columbus.” In December 2014, an additional 110,000 pop tops were delivered to Melissa Moran at the Columbus facility.
The latest collection includes donated pop tops left at 12 collection sites in three counties. It also includes almost 200 pop tops donated by Boy Scout Troup #2641 in Buena Vista. The latest collection will be transferred to Columbus in the coming weeks, while other donations are expected.
For those donors who have left their name and address, Kaylon has written letters of appreciation. He is often reminded about the number of people who support his mission. Having met or surpassed each of his previous collection goals, Kaylon is poised to exceed all expectations.
“This has been a gratifying project for Kaylon and for Perry Wellness Center,” Mulkey explains. Giving back to the community is an important part of the recovery process for many of the 77 peers currently attending the recovery program.
Good luck, Kaylon, in meeting all your volunteer goals!
