Another Candle in the Darkness

Candle lighting

Last night at 7:00 p.m., individuals around the world lit candles in memory of children they had lost. Members of the Perry Wellness Center family participated, honoring loved ones lost to suicide.

The annual Worldwide Candle Lighting is sponsored by The Compassionate Friends, an organization dedicated to the support of families who have suffered the loss of a child. At Perry Wellness Center, we particularly think of the survivors of suicide, as it is one of the largest causes of death for young people today.

If you or someone you know has suffered the loss of a child, whether in childhood or adulthood, The Compassionate Friends offers online support and other resources, including moderated live chats for family members who are suicide survivors.

Reducing the stigma of mental illness and suicide is often like lighting a candle in the darkness. The light may seem small, but it banishes a little bit of darkness. Enough glowing candles can light the way for many in need. Please help remember those who have been lost and help others find the way.
