Perry Wellness Center’s latest employee, Scott Giles, is the “new kid on the block,” but he is learning his responsibilities quickly. He is also getting to know the 70+ peers who attend the center. Scott spent his first days on the job meeting with a variety of peers across the campus.
“I enjoy meeting people and removing any barriers that might prevent me from doing my job, “Scott explains. “I am trying to meet people and understand where some of the peers are coming from in their recovery.”
Scott obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia. Like many other staff members at PWC, he also brings a wealth of vocational and volunteer experiences to his current position. Scott served as a computer graphic professional at Channel 13 TV in Macon, Georgia. In that role, he developed many skills in graphics and camera work. He covered Friday night football for area teams and led groups in electronic graphics for the news station. His employment history also includes stints in graphic layout for a Florida newspaper and other work in IT.
Although he enjoyed his diverse experiences, Scott is happy to be using his degree in psychology. He explains, “I am finally using my training at Perry Wellness Center. I realize that our world has increased trauma that can affect each of us.”
The 45-year-old staffer is married to Brittany and has two sons, aged 6 and 2 ½. A native Georgian, Scott has ventured to Florida and South Carolina, but states proudly, “I am a homebody!”
We hope you feel home at Perry Wellness Center, Scott. Welcome aboard!
