For Southerners, few things are more a part of their legacy than the front porch. On hot days, generations have sat on the front porch with a ceiling fan going overhead, as we waved at passersby.
At Perry Wellness Center, everyone takes pride in the beautifully landscaped campus. The first place to which peers, staff, and visitors head is the entrance porch of the main building, which offers a panoramic view of the grounds. Through the years, this area has been a site for greetings visitors, from Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter to state and national mental health advocates and leaders.
Only feet from the west parking lot, it has also evolved into a shelter for plants, away from the hot summer sun. PWC founder and CEO Stuart Perry explains, “The rails offer hanging space and shade for much of our inventory of hanging baskets from Rudy’s Happy Patch Market. It is a quiet place that I often use to think or have conversation with visitors and peer clients.”
Stuart has decided that this legacy spot deserves it own name, and he has come up with the perfect designation: “The Front Porch.”!! He explains, “This porch has been active since the creation of Perry Wellness Center.” With a smile, he adds, “I also want our customers to leave with at least one hanging basket.”
