October has arrived with a bang in South Georgia, with storms, cooler, weather, and many commemorative events surrounding mental health and neurological issues.
Here is a brief list:
National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month;
Mental Health Awareness Week;
ADHD Awareness Month;
OCD Awareness Week;
National Depression Screening Day;
World Mental Health Day.
Mental Health Awareness Week, National Depression Screening Day, and World Mental Health Day have already been recognized earlier in the month. (And our apologies that a cracked thumb delayed the release of postings!)
For the entire Depression and Mental Health Screening Month, the emphasis is upon increased awareness about depression and the need for affordable and accessible screenings. This year’s special theme is “Mental Health and Older Adults: Addressing a Growing Concern.” With around 75 million adults over the age of 60 in the U.S. today – the most ever, it’s a relevant subject. Stay tuned for a special posting on this topic.
