Art InstructionAs supporters of Perry Wellness Center know well by now, peers and staff are not afraid of a little color! Passersby immediately spot the center, particularly during warmer months, when greenhouses and gardens are filled with blooming plants.

However, the signs of creativity are not dormant during the winter months. There may be fewer plants in bloom throughout the market and gardens. But there is no void of color, due to the brilliantly painted garden structures, signage, fountains, and miscellaneous art projects scattered throughout the campus grounds and buildings.

Indoors and out, PWC is replete with artwork by current and former peers and staff. Outside, this includes everything from statues of the late Rudy Hayes to re-purposed garden tubs created by local artist Jeff Williams. Inside, walls are hung with needlework, drawings, and other works by peers for art classes or display and sale.

The photo shown here captures one of the most positive creative sights on the PWC campus: peer students in a classroom art class, led by instructor Phyllis Smith. As individuals process assignments and begin new creative endeavors, the spark of creativity is definitely in the air.
