As longtime readers know, each year Perry Wellness Center celebrates Spirit Week. Yes, the word “spirit” does represent both the team spirit we promote among all peers and staff and the fact that it is the week in which spirits are said to roam the earth. Each day features a special event, and peers are encouraged to wear costumes that reflect the theme.
At its best, Monday can be described as a day of organized chaos at Perry Wellness Center. For spirit Week, we celebrated Monday with “Sports Team Day.” Individuals were encouraged to wear an outfit that honored their favorite sports team. As peers arrived on Monday morning, a large number wore costumes, and a vote was taken for the best costume. Kelly Jansen managed the voting by both peers and staff.
In addition to representing team sports, peers also learned a new activity for practicing self-control. The exercise, Red Light, Green Light will be described in an upcoming post.
After making it through breakfast, costume voting, group discussion, and the self-control challenge, Kelly stated, “This Monday morning was more than a usual Monday morning. The beginning of the activities for the day and week was exciting, but planning the week with peers was a challenge!” Monday did go well overall, and more fun was anticipated throughout the week.
