The volleyball program at Perry Wellness Center is growing. While we will continue to provide opportunities for individual physical fitness activities, such as weight-lifting and treadmill work, we believe that team activities pay the most dividends for individuals working on their recovery.
As Stuart explains, “Organized team competition is better for our clients. They learn respect, motor skills, eye and hand coordination, and non-aggressive behavior.” He notes that the state of Georgia’s recently revised guidelines for peer programs are a move in the right direction. They promote the use of exercise and other physical activity as key service components.
Several new volleyball teams have been formed, and they are currently learning more about techniques and defensive strategy, under the guidance of “Coach” Stuart and Coach Chuck Wachob.
