The large century plant located on the campus of Perry Wellness Center is notable for its size and tenacity. No one knows for certain how long this plant, also known as an agave plant, has stood here, but it is the first time in memory that it has produced a bud.

Some varieties of the century plant are said to only bloom once in their lifetime. In desert climates, they may bloom every 10 – 30 years. We’re not sure about the one pictured here, but we’ve circled its still unopened bud as we start our countdown!
