Throughout Georgia, public and private organizations are embracing the concepts of wellness and recovery in mental health and substance abuse treatment. As a pioneering peer-led recovery center, Perry Wellness Center receives its share of visiting treatment providers. Most recently, we played host to a large delegation from the Albany Area Community Service Board , a public behavioral health organization providing a wide range of treatment and support services to individuals in several South Georgia counties.
We find that group tours provide mutual benefit, giving both the visitors and hosts the opportunity to learn from each other. As the Albany group included several peers who participate in one or more of its mental health or substance abuse programs, the visit also provided an opportunity for fellowship among the peers of both organizations.
Our founder, Stuart Perry, was pleased to host the group, saying, “It was really good to welcome these 20+ visitors from the Albany Area Community Service Board and some of their peer family.” The group enjoyed a tour of Rudy’s Happy Patch Market, as well as the classrooms and outdoor green spots. After the tour, the group adjourned to a hearty but healthful lunch in the cafeteria.
As always, we appreciated the chance to share our own approach to whole-health wellness and recovery, while learning more about the experiences of others who share our same journey.
