September is National Recovery Month! During the month, mental health advocates, professionals, and peers throughout the nation work to spread the message that:
· Prevention works;
· Treatment is effective; and
· People can recover from mental and/or substance abuse disorders.
The theme for this year’s Recovery Month is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Together on Pathways to Wellness.” We are asked to look at the unique ways in which people can promote mental health and sustain their recovery, through mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
At Perry Wellness Center, we promote the message of recovery 365 days a year. But it’s nice to have a month set aside to focus on recovery with other treatment programs and peers around the country.
Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing materials from this month’s national Recovery Month campaign, sponsored by SAMHSA. Today, we encourage you to take a look at “Overview: Together on Pathways to Wellness.” This guide provides information on recognizing mental illness and details what we mean when we talk about “recovery.”
We hope you’ll take a look, and check back throughout the month for more information.
