September is National Recovery Month, sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). We invite you to join us throughout this month as we share information on substance abuse and mental health recovery, including personal stories and new advancements in treatment. The national observance was established to educate Americans about mental health and substance abuse services and to share the message that those with a behavioral health disorder can recover and live a productive and healthy life.
The theme for this year’s Recovery Month is: “Join the Voices for Recovery: Visible, Vocal, Valuable!” It is a theme that we embrace at Perry Wellness Center. Many of our activities, from training programs to community outreach to our Happy Patch Market are designed to promote peers’ visibility in their communities, to teach peers how to speak up, and to promote feelings of self-worth in themselves and greater appreciation by others.
We thought we’d kick off the month by sharing a recent webcast from SAMHSA, entitled “New Technologies for Whole Body Health and Wellness.” The episode shares new technologies that make it easier for individuals to track their mental, emotional, and physical health. The webcast highlights such tools as virtual support communities, mobile applications, a suicide prevention hotline, and fitness tracking devices.
Whether you have a mental health or substance abuse problem or just want to stay as physically and mentally fit as possible, we think you’ll find some promising self-help tools here. To view the webcast, just go to this link.
Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend. We’ll be back next week.
