During the Christmas season, Perry Wellness Center has welcomed a new mascot to the festivities. Although it can’t take the place of our four-legged mascot, Gracie the Dog, there’s a new polar bear in town!
Staff member Amber Rechtorovic recently obtained a polar bear costume and debuted it on the Perry Wellness Express float in the downtown Americus Christmas parade.
“The costume was hot that night and the parade route was long. But it was fun, and our 1st place win made the effort worthwhile,” Amber says.
Amber is an experienced counselor and enjoys working in the recovery field. She also likes to portray favorite characters that might personify an event – in this case, a yuletide bear.
“I guess it may be a mental thing,” Amber speculates, “But my dressing up is fun and adds laughter to others.”
As we prepare to say goodbye to the old year and welcome a new one in, we thought it only fitting to have our wintry mascot help us give paws -- er, pause.
