Dallas ColeDallas Cole Brown usually sits quietly in discussion groups at Perry Wellness Center, quietly absorbing information. But outside of groups, he talks more readily, and a frequent subject is his strong religious faith.

The thirty-four-year-old Lee County resident explains, “Jesus is my life. I want to demonstrate by my manner that I am okay. Like many, I know that I have had issues to deal with, but my reliance on my faith has brought me to this day.”

He continues, “I was saved at 12 and have visited many churches in our area. At each, I find new attitudes that help. I am finding more reasons to help others. I do not share my beliefs when I first meet new friends, but we soon have a common bond of friendship.”

Dallas has many of the typical dreams of young men, such as buying a truck in the future. He enjoys new learning experiences and is planning a productive life. He notes, “I have been involved in several professional programs but have not yet selected my favorite. I got my GED and will soon go to college to become a nurse.” He also has an interest in sports nutrition.

Currently, Dallas lives with his father in nearby Smithville and appreciates the strong support of both of his parents, with whom he talks frequently. But he describes his Bible as his “life support.” He has attended Baptist churches, but has been recently reading the Book of Mormon, as he enjoys learning more about other religions and denominations. Dallas sees his religious faith and study as important to his total wellness program.

“I want to follow Jesus each day,” he concludes with a smile. His personal message: “I am not different from others sine I read religious books and wear ‘different’ tee shirts. I just want to let others know of my faith.”
