Watering Vegetable BedsLast week, we told readers about the spring garden preparations underway at Perry Wellness Center. Now Jeff Williams has joined the preparations, focusing on the water supply in particular.

“We must have adequate water,” Jeff states. “We don’t know about the future weather conditions of the growing season. We have to be ready in case it is dry.”

Among other tasks, Jeff is checking all the sprinkler heads in the gardens and greenhouses for any weather damage. He is also taking a look at watering patterns, vegetable bed size, and other factors. For example, did you know that smaller vegetable beds are better for water control? Also, both money and water are saved when the water hits only productive areas, not weeds. Simple changes can really make a difference.
