Monica Waters ColeusOver the past weekend, Americus and much of the Southeast received heavy rainfall. According to WISK-FM radio’s Donnie McCrary, over 6 inches of rain fell during the weekend. McCrary reported, “The station is an island!”

As part of her daily routine, peer Monica Bolden waters each display pot of flowers and other plants in the parking lot area and adjacent gardens of Rudy’s Happy Patch Market and Perry Wellness Center.  During the weekend, Monica noted the heavy downpours: “I knew we had a lot of rain this weekend. I had to cover my bedroom window because of the lightning. I could sleep with the rain noise and bright light.”

But maintaining a routine is an important part of raising plants. Monica concludes, “I knew I had to check all plants on Monday and water them as I do.” In the photo above, Monica attends to a group of vibrant coleus plants.
