In Southwest Georgia, a surprising amount of English ivy is used by property owners in their gardens or arbors and on their houses. Some gardeners cut and sprig the broad leaf English ivy plant in order to enjoy the slow coverage of walls and shady boundaries.

Perry Wellness Center founder and CEO Stuart Perry recalls this technique from boyhood days.

“I remember when Mother would cut and root the larger leaf ivy in our greenhouses on Oliver Street, in the rear of our house,” Stuart recalls. “I had to water the newly cut plants for transfer to our gas station in downtown Buena Vista, Georgia, where they were sold to customers. Those were simple times, and they were fun.”

Recently, Stuart learned of where he could get access to small leaf ivy. Since this variation of English ivy has arrived at PWC, staff have been busy repotting the ivy into baskets and smaller pots. The cuttings are now settled in larger hanging baskets located on the west side of Rudy’s Happy Patch Market.

Stuart invites customers to come down and see the ivy and other new plants that are available in the newly stocked market.
