During the holiday season at Perry Wellness Center, visitors notice a changing background from Halloween through Christmas. A few weeks ago, Mulkey McMichael caught some porch décor shots of a new porch addition that was hard to “place” at first. On closer inspection, under a beautiful yellow chrysanthemum, lay a giant ladybug.
Rather than a real insect, this creature was the product of human creativity – namely by Phyllis Smith, PWC’s lead creative instructor and certified peer specialist. Here is her take on the otherworldly bug a/k/a flower pot:
“I wanted to show our peers the creative value of the use of found objects or older, throw-away objects. After discussion some weeks ago, peers saw a ladybug in two stacked, worn tires. It turned into a good project for them,” Miss Phyllis said.
The two old tires were painted with brilliant red paint and black googly eyes and certainly make a colorful container for the fall mum. Here’s to future art projects!
