In a previous post, we have shared with our readers a story that was close to home for several Perry Wellness Center staff and friends: the gathering of friends of Americus native John Paul Shellnut for a fundraiser. Shellnut was experiencing continuing medical problems after a stroke. Stuart Perry and Jeff Williams were among those who attended the California event, where they received a tour from the event organizer, the inimitable Billy Bob Thornton. The fellow actors are close friends.
On May 2nd, several locals returned for a follow-up event at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in West, again on behalf of John Paul Shellnut. This event was hosted by Billy Bob T
hornton, his wife, Connie, and Rod Gruendyke. Hotel owner Mark Rosenthal joined the hosts.
As at the first event, guests enjoyed both the entertainment and the spirit of good will that filled the room. Those of us who think of “Bad Santa” when it comes to Billy Bob Thornton, now can appreciate his outreach as a friend and humanitarian as well.
