Whether managing a business, a budget, school, or other endeavors, planning is a critical part of the process. At Perry Wellness Center, planning for over 60 peers’ daily activities requires group effort in developing a workable schedule.
The process is aided by a large, conspicuous display board, which charts daily and weekly events. Outside the counselors’ offices, the board is filled with activities for both peers and staff.
Group topics are posted on the board, along with planned exercise and other recreational activities. Group activities include current event reviews, artistic expression, peer to peer sessions, recovery stories exchanges, and daily planning. Meal and break times are also included. Even “down” time is usually filled with peer-planned activities such as reading groups and needlework.
Explains counselor Noah Cochran, “It is vital that we plan all hours and day for peers at Perry Wellness Center. We document each minute and event in an effort to grade our success and change our programs as we must.”
The board is completed each Monday and updated as necessary during the week. “The board is like a ‘think panel’ for us,” Noah notes.
