Recently, Perry Wellness Center participated once again in the annual Andersonville Historic Fair. The Americus Civitan Club graciously allowed us to man its booth. We provided a mouth-watering selection of foods to customers, including: hamburgers, hotdogs, chili dogs, French fries, Hardy Farms boiled peanuts, sweetened and unsweetened tea, and bottled water.
Our colorful booth was festooned with garden mums, pumpkins, woven baskets, and wreaths as well. Peers and staff served as barkers to lure customers to the booth, where a sign boldly proclaimed: “Perry Wellness Center: Happiness Grows Here!”
Participating in events such as the Andersonville Fair is always a wonderful opportunity for our peers to have greater involvement in the life of the community. This fair is a particularly enjoyable outing, filled with fall colors, lots of food, and a little history thrown in for good measure. It is also a time for hard work, as peers help prepare food, load and unload supplies, and man the booth.
Stuart Perry sums it up: “This planning and event attendance by most of our 69 peers was great fun for our family. This involvement has told us that such excitement is a positive event in peer lives. We will do more!” Stuart also offered his thanks to the local Americus Civitan Club for the use of their booth.
For those we didn’t see at this year’s fair, hope to see you all next year!
