This past weekend, we had an exciting time at the inaugural visit of the Sam’s Shortline Railroad to Perry Wellness Center. On Friday and Saturday mornings, the scenic railroad made its first scheduled stop at our campus. Local visitors also turned out to browse the market and enjoy a variety of foods, from barbecue, peas and cornbread to Hardy Farm peanuts and freshly popped popcorn.
Visitors to the market were greeted by a display of unique objects and peer creations at Rudy’s Happy Patch Market, placed on special tables as part of a fall wellness sale. Noted market clerk Mary Rounds, “We placed some great gifts on our display tables at an inviting price. Some of these pieces will make great Christmas presents.”
Mums were also on display at the market, blooming in five different colors, and bins of fresh produce welcomed both long-time customers and riders of the Shortline system.
Visitors were provided with information sheets and tours of the campus during the stop. Tour groups this weekend included members of the Learning in Retirement team from Valdosta, GA, along with other visitors from South Georgia. We hope to welcome new visitors soon!
