Planning the Best Christmas Ever at PWC
At Perry Wellness Center, the Christmas spirit is definitely in the air. We all eagerly await each milestone in the holiday season, from tree-trimming to building a float for the downtown Christmas parade. Of course, we are also planning our upcoming Cheer Up the Blues open house, filling the market with seasonal items, developing Christmas menus, and looking forward to visits from local groups.
Amanda Perry and her team are in charge of planning the best Christmas celebration ever at the center, and she is up to the task! Between her organizational ability and her contagious enthusiasm, she is bringing out the creative spirit and hard work of both staff and peers.
In group discussions and daily table talk, peers and staff are reminded of the season, from the bright decorations on each table to the smell of the fresh, twinkling cedar tree. The seasonal decorations are particularly lovely this year. While some decorations are used every year, Amanda has introduced some freshness to the mix.
She explains: “With the creation of new and exciting decorations, I want to be sure that the peer family and staff are aware of the changes in the celebration of Christmas.” Setting new traditions is part of the PWC legacy. But they all are meant to remind us of the “reason for the season.”
In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing stories and photos about all the holiday events, but we thought we’d start off with a Christmas calendar so that our readers can mark their calendars for some of the events:
December 3 (today!) – Our newest float (beautifully decorated by Jeff Williams and peers) will debut in the downtown Americus Christmas parade. Peers will walk behind the float and share a message of hope for those with mental illness.
December 9 – The annual Christmas party hosted by the Americus Civitan Club will take place. Each year this local club shares its generosity with our peers.
December 17 – “Cheer Up the Blues,” our annual community celebration, will be hosted at Rudy’s Happy Patch Market from 5 – 7 p.m. All are invited!
December 21 – Our staff Christmas party will take place.
December 23—The peer Christmas party will take place, with lots of food, decorations, and gifts.
December 24 – Half day on campus for Christmas Eve; staff will leave after peers.
December 25 – MERRY CHRISTMAS! (Center closed)
December 31 – Half day on campus for New Year Eve; staff will leave after peers.
January 1 – HAPPY NEW YEAR! (Center closed)
Amanda puts it well for all of us: “Merry Christmas to all! Each of us is reminded to share the ‘reason for the season’ and remind others that ‘Life is Good!’”
