Not that we are ready for fall at Perry Wellness Center, but the date Friday, September 22, 2017 is posted prominently at Rudy’s Happy Patch Market. Yes, we’re ready to usher in a cooler season.
Fall is a favorite time on campus. In addition to cooler days, there’s a bit less landscaping and maintenance to be done. Fall colors brighten the campus, and fall vegetables are planted and harvested in raised beds.
But one of the first signs of fall is the appearance of colorful mums. We have already purchased several mums and are awaiting their full blossoming. They are hanging at the south parking lot entrance to the market.
“I remember when my family had greenhouses behind our home in Buena Vista,” Stuart Perry reminisces. “Fall was a favorite time of year. The color was a great reminder of cooler temperatures.” He looks forward to the blooming of this year’s mums.
“All of our mums are tight, but with care and water, they will be great,” Stuart says with assurance.
In the photo above, Vicki Lamika proudly shows the first appearance of blooms on a market mum.
