Valentines an All-Week Celebration

Last week, we told our readers about a portion of our Valentines Day Talent Showfestivities at Perry Wellness Center. Our first annual Candy Gram was a big success, as peers enjoyed giving and receiving a variety of Valentine-themed presents to celebrate love and friendship.

But Valentines Day felt more like Valentines Week at the center, as the excitement and activities continued through the rest of the week. On Friday, the celebration continued with a peer talent show, followed by a special luncheon. Fridays have always been days of less structure and more fun on campus, but this past Friday was even more special.

“We tried to celebrate love and Valentines in special ways for our peer population,” said event organizer Amanda Perry. “I think our normal ‘Fun Friday’ has taken on new meaning.”

Twelve peers signed up for a much-anticipated talent show, and each shared his or her special talent with an enthusiastic audience. Some peers sang, one individual shared a recently completed poetic composition, and several were participants in a group dance led by Stuart Perry.

The level of talent made it difficult for the judges to select winners, and there was a three-way tie for first place. Shanesha E., Shanora R., and Nakia R. each received gifts of $30 shopping sprees at Rudy’s Happy Patch Market. The second place award was given to Sonya M., and third place was awarded to James M.

Amanda Perry noted, “We had eight judges, and the vote tally was close. I am happy that we had the participation that we did. We discovered new talents at Perry Wellness Center.” She concluded with the promise, “We will have more shows.”

After talent awards were given, peers were given gift bags as they headed to a lunch of homemade lasagna with all the trimmings.

“I am very proud of Amanda and her team of peer planners, “enthused Perry Wellness Center founder and CEO (and proud father) Stuart Perry. “There was no problem with them to help us all celebrate our lives and the caring spirit at Perry Wellness Center.”
