Manson MarketteThis week we were saddened to learn of the death of Manson Markette, a long-time friend of Perry Wellness Center and cherished member of the community. Just last month, we wrote an update on Mr. Manson’s efforts on behalf of Perry Wellness Center. He taught classes to peers in plant propagation, and much of the beauty of our colorful, blooming campus is due to the handiwork of Manson Markette. A creative horticulturist and landscaper, he taught us how to brighten our surroundings and create green havens in which staff and peers could relax and reflect.

He also taught professionalism and patience, as he worked tirelessly with untrained peers and staff, showing how beauty could be created with a handful or dirt and a small plant cutting. We remember him for all he taught and gave us over the years, and offer our sympathy to his family.

For more information on his work at Perry Wellness Center, you can read the article below from our blog archives:

Manson Markette’s memorial service will be held this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church in Americus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either Calvary Episcopal or Sumter County Humane Society.
